The International Urban Planning Competition "Bucharest 2000"

International competition in Timisoara concerning the center area of the city;
Two national competitions (open to architects from Romania or of Romanian origin) in Bucharest, for two of the main central area public spaces
- Piata Revolutiei ( 2 stages – first one on urban planning, second one architectural object design)
- Piata Victoriei
 
EXHIBITIONS 
UAR organize currently exhibitions in Romania or abroad. It was present in the last three editions at the International Biennial of Architecture in Venice and also prepared and has shown several large exhibitions in Paris, Madrid, Oxford, Bonn, Budapest, Zurich, London, Edinburgh and Barcelona.

For the next period a new exhibitions will be organized in Romania or abroad;

UAR is currently publishing:
a monthly newsletter titled  B I U A R
6 issues per year of the journal titled ARHITECTURA
a monthly cultural magazine ARHITEXT

LEGISLATIVE PROGECTS
UAR makes efforts in order to bring the Romanian legislation in the field of architecture and urban planning to the European and international level. In the Law no. 50/1991 on investments it now states obligation of an architects signature for obtaining the building permit.

A Work Group named National Register of Architects has been created in order to prepare within the Board of the UAR the project of Law on professional practice. The work group will make the lobby for urgent parliamentary approval of the law. UAR is also involved in the preparation of the Law on architectural patrimony, as well as of a Code of Ethics, of a Working Regulation and of a new Statues of the UAR

Publishing House Simetria

The publishing program of the Publishing House Simetria comprises 5-7 annual titles, both research works by Romanian architects, and translations of fundamental theoretical studies in the field of architecture and urban planning. The following books and catalogues was published by UAR`s Publishing House Simetria:

  • "Marcel Ianco, artist, architect and theorist" (bilingual Romanian – English);
  • "Forgotten Balance 1991 – Timisoara – 1996/emerging Voices from the Past, Horia Creanga, Marcel Ianco, G.M. Cantacuzino", the catalogue of the exhibition presented of the Venice Biennial (English version);
  • White Book of ACE: "Europe and Architecture Tomorrow" (the bilingual version Romanian – English)
  • "Bucharest, a City between East and West" – a book of the architect Dana Harhoiu on the urban development of Bucharest.(bilingual Romanian – French)
  • The following titles are in preparatio
